本周我们来学习与植物相关的词汇。
1. germinate /'dʒɜːmɪneɪt/
v. 使发芽；使开始生长
e.g. The beans will only germinate if the temperature is warm enough.
雅思听力13-1-3：Then we wait for the seeds to germinate- I reckon that will be about three weeks, depending on what the weather is like.
v. 想法、计划或感觉形成，产生
e.g. One of my cherished long-term goals is to have my own restaurant which provides gourmet meals and excellent dining experience . And actually this idea has been germinating in my mind for a few years.
2. ephemeral /ɪ'fem(ə)r(ə)l/
adj. 短暂的;瞬间的
e.g. The ephemeral nature of flowers reminds us to appreciate the present moment.
如口语话题：Have you sent flowers?
To be honest, I opt for something more practical as flowers are generally decorative and ephemeral. They bloom and wilt in just a couple of days.
3. green thumb /griːn θʌm/
释义：Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb.
e.g. My grandma has a knack for growing plants well. She really has a big green thumb.
e.g. A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well.
补充：have a knack for … 有…的诀窍；本领
4. botany /'bɒt(ə)nɪ/
n. 植物学
e.g. Zoology and botany are the two main branches of biology.
e.g. They shared a common interest in botany.
补充：botanist 植物学家
e.g. The botanist introduced a new species of plant to the region.
e.g. Botanists are trying to save the endangered plants.
adj. botanic 植物的
植物园：botanic garden
e.g. Stroll in the botanic gardens will be the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon!
e.g. The botanic garden offers a tranquil oasis to this busy city, with over 3,000 plants and flowers on display.
